working & living in the isle of man
The Isle of Man is a place of beauty and history which lies in the Irish Sea between the United Kingdom and Ireland. Measuring 32 miles long and 14 miles wide, the Island has a population of just over 80,000. It is a self governing British Crown Dependency with its own government, money and laws. The Island is not part of the United Kingdom and has no representation in the British Parliament, nor is it part of the EU. Known for its safe environment, family life is very important and the Island’s schools are second to none.
The Isle of Man has a well-balanced and diversified economy which combines its traditional industries with areas such as manufacturing and financial services. The Island’s Government is committed to preserving the Island’s status as a top class financial centre with good regulation and co-operation with other jurisdictions, conducting high quality, substantial business and full participation on the work of the international regulatory organisations. The Isle of Man retains ‘AA+’ ratings from Standard and Poor’s, AAA from Moody’s and has won the Best International Finance Centre award seven times out of the last eight years.
If you are relocating to the Island you will discover a wide range of events and attractions from steam and electric trains to rock climbing and swimming with basking sharks. Every year thousands of motorcyclists flock to the Isle of Man to experience the excitement of "TT”, the high speed motorcycle race on public roads. There is a wealth of Manx history from the Celts to the Vikings with settlements, castles and crosses marking the Island’s long history.
Appleby is also proud to be among the first organisations in the Isle of Man to be part of the Freedom to Flourish Brand Champions, a public/private partnership devoted to promoting the island as a great place to live, work and do business and where everyone can have the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Working with the Freedom to Flourish team and the Isle of Man Government, we help spread this strategic message and contribute to our Island’s prosperity.
