Appleby helps Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

The International Charity Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust teamed up with Jersey Tourism and Appleby to throw open its doors to all in July 2010 as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

Durrell Day, which attracted thousands of visitors, took place in July, as the Trust thanked Jersey residents for all their support over the past 50 years.

The wildlife park was divided into a three zones for the day, enabling visitors to enjoy a number of different experiences as well as the more familiar animal exhibits.

Visitors enjoyed activities and experiences such as den building, a genuine Jersey fair, walks and talks and a memorabilia exhibition in the Corfu, Jersey and Conservation zones.

Paul Masterton, CEO of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, said: “Jersey residents have always been the first line of support for Durrell and we were proud to be able to thank all members of our community by opening up the wildlife park, for free, on Durrell Day.”

Michael O’Connell, Managing Partner of Appleby, in Jersey added: “We were very pleased to be able to offer our support to Durrell in this way. The Trust continues to do excellent conservation work worldwide."

David de Carteret, of Jersey Tourism, said: “Durrell has been a fantastic supporter of tourism in Jersey for half a century and we are delighted to be working with the Trust to celebrate their achievements on Durrell Day.”
